In-Game Leader (IGL) Role and Responsibilities
The IGL (In-Game Leader) is the player calling tactics, site executes, rotations, and strategy during matches. The IGL decides which bomb site to attack, what utility to buy, when to eco or full buy, and how to adapt to enemy plays. IGLs are the strategic minds behind team performance.
IGL responsibilities: pre-round strategy (which site to hit), mid-round adjustments (adapting to unexpected enemy positions), post-plant positioning (defending bomb or playing for picks), economy management (coordinating team buys), and emotional leadership (morale management, preventing tilt).
Becoming an IGL requires game sense, communication skills, and understanding of CS economy and strategy. IGLs are often higher-skilled players who mentor teammates on positioning and decision-making. The best teams have experienced IGLs who've studied hundreds of matches and understand optimal strategy.
IGL communication style matters: clear, concise calls enable quick team response. Lengthy explanations mid-round confuse teammates. Efficient calls: two words describe most situations. 'B execute' is understood; lengthy explanations waste time. Listening to team input (players spot things IGLs miss) improves calls.
