How Ranking Points Are Calculated

Counter-Strike 2 ranking is based on a hidden ELO-like system. Wins increase your rating; losses decrease it. The amount depends on several factors: your current rank, opponent ranks (playing against higher-ranked opponents grants more points), and your individual performance in the match.

Individual performance metrics include kills, assists, deaths, bomb plants/defuses, and objective completion. A high-kill performance combined with a win grants significant rank points. A low-kill performance with a win grants fewer points. Conversely, losing to significantly lower-ranked opponents costs more rank points than losing to higher-ranked opponents.

Exactly how much individual performance matters versus team results is debated. Evidence suggests team result (win/loss) is the primary factor (approximately 70%), with individual performance as secondary (approximately 30%). Fragging out magnificently but losing the match grants fewer rank points than winning despite lower individual stats.

Multiple matches of winning streaks cause accelerated ranking up as the algorithm increases your rating faster. Similarly, losing streaks can prevent ranking up or cause ranking down depending on circumstances. The system attempts to place players at their appropriate skill level within 20-40 ranked matches.
